It’s not wrong to come to Jesus because of need. All throughout Scripture, we see people coming to Him with needs! They come in moments of desperation—the sick asking for healing, the broken begging for mercy, the desperate longing for hope. Many of us began our own faith journey the same way: calling out to Jesus in a moment of desperate need.
Following Jesus is more than admiring His miracles or being impressed by His power. He wants committed followers. Commitment to Christ means surrendering our will to His, walking daily in obedience, and pursuing a relationship with Him alongside others in community. Jesus calls us to move beyond the comfort of the crowd and into the closeness of a relationship with Him that is established in the process of discipleship.
The call is to move closer and go deeper. In the crowd, it’s convenient and safe. But in the community of disciples, Jesus shapes your character, strengthens your faith, and commissions your life for His Kingdom purpose.
How to Start Moving Closer and Going Deeper with Jesus
Spend Daily Time in God’s Word and Prayer Set aside time each day to read Scripture and Pray! Communicate with God (talk and listen). Ask Him not only to meet your needs but to shape your heart.
Join our Community Faith grows best in community. Don’t just attend church on Sundays—get connected to a Life Group and a Discipleship Community where you can walk with others and grow in your faith.
Practice Surrender Each day, ask: “Lord, what do You want from me today?” Be willing to lay down your plans and trust His.
Serve in His Mission Following Jesus means joining Him in His work. Look for ways to serve at church, to love your neighbor, and to intentionally share your faith.
Take One Next Step at a Time Moving closer doesn’t happen all at once. Identify one specific step you can take this week—whether it’s to begin reading your Bible, joining a group, reconciling with someone, or committing to serve.
Don’t get comfortable in the crowd. Move closer. Go deeper. Jesus is ready to meet you, transform you, and send you out with purpose.
