Fasting Devotional – Day Seven
Title: Shift to Humility
Text: James 4:10
Written By: Brian Lambert
“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.” (James 4:10, ESV)
Thoughts:
Humility is essential for spiritual alignment and transformation. In James 4:10, we are called to humble ourselves before the Lord, trusting that He will lift us up in His perfect time. This shift requires a surrender of pride, self-sufficiency, and the need to control our circumstances.
In a culture that often glorifies self-promotion and independence, humility can feel counterintuitive. However, true transformation begins when we recognize our dependence on God and submit to His authority. Humility is not thinking less of ourselves; it’s thinking of ourselves less and placing God at the center of our lives.
When we humble ourselves, we make room for God to work in and through us. It’s in this posture of surrender that He aligns our hearts with His will, transforms our character, and lifts us up in ways that reflect His glory.
As you continue in this season of prayer and fasting, ask God to reveal areas of pride in your life. Are there areas where you’ve been relying on your own strength instead of His? A shift in humility invites God to take His rightful place as Lord over every area of your life.
Challenge:
Take time today to reflect on one area where pride or self-reliance might be holding you back. Write it down and surrender it to God in prayer. Choose one act of humility to practice today—whether it’s asking for help, apologizing, or serving someone without expecting recognition.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I come before You with a humble heart, recognizing my need for You in every area of my life. Forgive me for the times I’ve relied on my own strength or placed myself at the center. Help me to shift my focus to You and to walk in humility. Transform my heart so that I may reflect Your love and grace to others. Thank You for Your promise to lift me up as I submit to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
