Fasting Devotional – Day Six
Title: From Man’s Frailty to God’s Majesty
Text: Job 26:7-14
Written by: Dawn Houston
“He stretches out the north over the void and hangs the earth on nothing. 8 He binds up the waters in his thick clouds, and the cloud is not split open under them. 9 He covers the face of the full moon and spreads over it his cloud.10 He has inscribed a circle on the face of the waters at the boundary between light and darkness. 11 The pillars of heaven tremble and are astounded at his rebuke. 12 By his power he stilled the sea; by his understanding he shattered Rahab. 13 By his wind the heavens were made fair; his hand pierced the fleeing serpent. 14 Behold, these are but the outskirts of his ways, and how small a whisper do we hear of him! But the thunder of his power who can understand?” (Job 26:7-14, ESV)
Thoughts
When I think of Job my mind automatically goes to suffering. In these verses Job shifts the conversation from man’s frailty to God’s majesty. Do you have a situation in your life that needs this shift of mindset? When someone is drowning, they can only fight for their life for so long before they give out. A life preserver is such a simple device yet it saves lives if the person in need can shift from trying to save themselves and grab hold.
Our family has been praying for a situation for a long time. It feels like the water is getting deeper and deeper. It is getting darker and darker. We are having to shift our thinking from what we thought was going to happen and lean into what God has planned. God gave us these verses as we grabbed hold of Him. Verse 14 says All these Mighty works are but the edge of His ways! We have only heard a whisper of Him! BUT the THUNDER of HIS POWER who can understand? We are shifting from what makes sense, what we are being told will happen, to GOD BRING THE POWER! We are clinging to the God who not only has indescribable power but the God who made the THUNDER!
Challenge
I challenge you to cling to the God who is able to do exceedingly abundantly more than we ask or think.
Ephesians 3:20: Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen. (ESV)
Prayer
God, we trust you with our needs. We trust you to work in a way only you can. God Almighty, show us your Thunder!
